Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk defeated British boxer Tyson Fury for the second time and retained his world boxing title. The fight occurred on the night of December 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The belts held by Usyk in the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Organization (WBO), and World Boxing Association (WBA) were at stake.
The fight lasted all 12 rounds, each lasting three minutes. Usyk demonstrated accurate punches, landing three: twice in the torso and then in the head. In the last minutes, Usyk launched a successful combined attack.
The fight ended with a unanimous decision of the judges – 116:112 in favor of Usyk.
AI, which worked as the fourth referee and did not influence the decision, gave Usyk a 118-112 advantage.
The boxer dedicated the victory to his mother, Nadiia Petrivna, and “all the mothers of Ukraine.” Oleksandr Usyk dedicated his first victory over Fury, when he became the absolute world heavyweight boxing champion, to his father.
The Sportster reports that Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk’s fee after his victory over Fury amounted to $114 million.
The boxers shared $190 million. Usyk will receive 60% of the total amount, that is, $114 million, and Fury will receive 76 million.
It is noted that this is a record fee for the Ukrainian’s entire career.
Tyson Fury claimed that the judges made a mistake by awarding the victory to Usyk and that he should have won.
