The Ukrainian Agribusiness Club’s calculations show that the price of borsch in Ukraine in March of this year was UAH 177, 19% more than last year and 9% more than in February.
As an example for the calculations, a recipe for borscht was taken, where three liters of water will require 300 g of cabbage, 200 g of beets, 300 g of potatoes, 150 g of carrots, 100 g of onions, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 30 ml of oil, 500 g of pork ribs, salt, pepper, and bay leaf to taste.
Among these products:
- cabbage went up by 71% over the year and fell by 1% in a month,
- beets rose in price by 51% over the year and by 13% over the month,
- potatoes went up by 26% over the year but fell by 2% in a month,
- carrots added 271% over the year and 9.8% over the month,
- onions fell in price by 1% over the year but rose by 5% over the month,
- tomato paste went up by 14% over the year and by 6% over the month,
- oil rose in price by 38% over the year and by 4% over the month,
- pork ribs went up 7% over the year and 10% over the month.
“If you add two slices of loaf (50 g), a tablespoon of sour cream (25 g), and a clove of garlic (5 g) to borscht, its price will rise to UAH 185 against UAH 170 last month,” the UCAB calculated.
