A man kills a single father from Ukraine in Ireland

Irish police (Gardaí) have arrested a 40-year-old man as part of an investigation into the brutal murder of a 31-year-old Ukrainian national in Cork city centre. The tragedy occurred on the evening of March 16, when the man left his home to buy food for a family dinner on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day. He is currently being held in custody under the Criminal Procedure Act, where he can be questioned for 24 hours.

The tragedy occurred on the evening of March 16, 2026. The Ukrainian, who was raising a single child and lived in the Camden Court housing estate, went out to buy food for a festive dinner. At around 7:50 p.m. on Devonshire Street, he was attacked with a knife.

Despite serious injuries and heavy bleeding, the injured man managed to walk about 100 meters back to his driveway. Neighbours who saw the man bleeding immediately called emergency services. Paramedics arrived within minutes, but the victim could not be saved – he died at the scene.

Detectives believe the attack was completely random and had no prior motive. A special operations headquarters has been set up at Watercourse Road police station to investigate.
