A film about the Odesa sanatorium “Kuyalnik” has been nominated for the 2026 Oscars by Ireland. The Irish Film and Television Academy has selected a contender for the award — the documentary film “Sanatorium” by director Gar O’Rourke about the legendary “Kuyalnik” near Odesa, Ukraine, Variety reports.
The film was co-produced by France and Ukraine with the participation of 2332 Films, which worked on Sean Penn’s Superpower.
The film shows life at the sanatorium: the work, treatment, and recreation of guests who come every summer to recharge their batteries by the salt lake — even during wartime.
