Chernihiv veteran Vladyslav Shatilo (“Shatya”), with a prosthetic leg, completed a 42.2 km marathon at the Toronto Marathon in Canada. The idea for such a race occurred to Vladyslav after his injury. Then, while in intensive care, the border guard promised himself that one day he would definitely run a marathon on a prosthesis.
According to him, the last kilometers of the race were the most difficult. At first, severe cramps appeared in his healthy leg, and then a sharp pain in his side.
After the 35th kilometer, it seemed he would not have enough strength to finish. Still, the support of people along the route and other participants in the race helped him.
During the marathon, funds were also collected for the rehabilitation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers. Vladyslav opened a separate bank for the “Yangola-3” patronage service.
The Toronto Marathon is one of the largest marathons in Canada. This year it was held on May 3. Participants covered the full marathon distance, the half marathon, as well as 10- and 5-kilometer races.
Vladyslav Shatilo went to the ATO zone at the age of 18. His first rotation was in September 2014. In 2019, he suffered a leg injury.
After prosthetic limb replacement, he became a participant in the “Warriors’ Games” competition.
He has many achievements to his credit, informs Suspilne. Chernihiv. In particular, in October 2023, together with Yevhen Smaga, he set a world record in strongman at the Arnold Classic Europe, as part of the Ukrainian national team, moving a truck 20 meters in 30.6 seconds.
