On average, from January to November 2024, Ukrainians spent UAH 12.7 billion per month replenishing gambling accounts in online casinos. In December, this figure increased to 19.4 billion UAH. If calculated, the amount for the year is 159.1 billion UAH. This was reported by Deputy Chairman of the Tax Committee Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
“Not everyone loses (something comes back as a win). But in general, it is a sad fact during the war that people spend almost 20 billion on this type of entertainment,” he said.
During the year, the gambling business paid UAH 16.99 billion in taxes to the budget, compared to UAH 10.4 billion in 2023. At the same time, the tax burden decreased over the year.
Remember that the Register of Problem Gamblers has doubled since the beginning of 2024. It currently includes more than 7.8 thousand Ukrainians. Starting from July 25, 2024, financial institutions are prohibited from issuing consumer loans to gambling addicts included in the Register.
