Ukrainian winery wins international wine competition in France

Ukrainian craft winery Lowkowo has made a loud statement on the international stage — its wines won the prestigious Concours International de Lyon in France.

This year, more than 10 thousand samples from 58 countries competed for the championship. Lowkowo became the only Ukrainian winery to perform with distinction alongside recognized masters from France, Italy, and Spain.

The gold medal and a high score of 91 points out of 100 went to the Chardonnay Amphora 2024 wine. The secret of its success lies in an ancient technology: fermentation and aging occur in a clay amphora lined with grape skins. This method gives the drink a rich texture and a multifaceted, deep aroma.

The “silver” went to the classic Chardonnay 2025. This is a more restrained interpretation of the variety — a fresh, dry white wine with pronounced acidity and bright fruit and citrus accents. The expert jury rated it 81 points.

All samples were tested during a “blind” tasting without any information about the origin of the drinks.

Interestingly, the winery is located in the village of Levkiv in the Zhytomyr region — a region that, until recently, was not associated with viticulture at all. The first vines were planted here only in 2018–2019.
