Ukrainian Alex Babich, who emigrated to the USA as a teenager, grew the world’s tallest sunflower – an almost 11-meter flower made it into the Guinness Book of Records.
Babich, a 47-year-old man, was born and raised in Ukraine. At the age of 14, he emigrated to the USA and now lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana, writes the AR agency.
Seven years ago, he began growing sunflowers as a symbol of his love for his native country. Babich’s first sunflower was 4 meters high, the next ones were 4.5 and 5.8 meters. According to the man, the record-breaking sunflower was the result of many years of trial.
Babich’s 10-year-old son also made his contribution, naming the flower “Clover”. The boy also climbed up every day and placed four-leaf clovers on the sunflower leaves for good luck. According to Babich, his passion for sunflowers deepened after Russia’s full-scale invasion to Ukraine.
The official measurement of the sunflower took place on September 3, 2025, and about 85 people, including local government officials and experts, gathered for the event.
