The official presentation of Ukrainian artist Alevtina Kakhidze’s project, COLOROPERA, took place in Japan as part of an extensive cultural program in Tokyo, Kobe, and Osaka. The installation is an immersive 360-degree space comprising four thematic sections: the future of Ukraine, civilian experiences, perspectives of military personnel, and victory. The project is based on approximately 60 interviews with military personnel, civilians, displaced individuals, and artists, who shared their experiences of the war and related color associations. These testimonies serve as the foundation for integrating audio, video, text, music, and lighting effects to create a unified emotional space.
Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna emphasized that culture serves as a means by which societies reveal their truths to the world, and COLOROPERA communicates the Ukrainian experience through art. The artist of the installation noted that the composition begins with the “Future of Ukraine” section and navigates through the tribulations of war, shaping the perception of victory.
The project was realized with the support of the Spilne Art platform, the Tokarev Foundation, and the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. In June of this year, Spilne Art plans to inaugurate a personal exhibition of Alevtina Kakhidze, featuring COLOROPERA as the main work.
