Even during the war, people from all over the world came to Ukraine to get dental care. Why is this so? We talked to one of the best dentists in Ukraine, Kristina Medynska, who is currently working in Athens.
How long did you work in Ukraine before moving to Greece, and have you seen any changes in the dental field during this period?
Before moving to Greece, I worked in Ukraine for 17 years. For the past ten years, I have been coming to Greece regularly as a tourist, and Greece has always given me warm emotions and a desire to return. I even thought about moving there, but my clinic in Ukraine has always been important to me, and I couldn’t make a final decision about moving because I couldn’t leave it.
However, during my trips to Greece, I started comparing dental clinics and felt that there could be many opportunities for me here. My own experience in running a clinic allowed me to assess the quality of services provided in other facilities. By comparing, I recognized that I could contribute to the dental industry in Greece.
During my search, I found an excellent clinic in the center that gave me a very positive impression. Located in a good neighborhood, it met all my requirements and standards. Thus, I decided to expand my business and offer my services in this beautiful city.
The decision-making process was accelerated by the outbreak of war in Ukraine…
What modern techniques and innovations in dentistry are currently relevant in Ukraine?
Dental techniques are actively developing every six months or a year, depending on the direction, such as surgery or therapy. I am constantly improving my skills by participating in courses and seminars. I note that the dental industry in Ukraine has made a big step forward in development, especially in recent years.
One of the key innovations is the improvement of treatment methods and the introduction of the latest technologies that allow patients to tolerate dental procedures more comfortably. For example, new methods of anesthesia and pain management are emerging, particularly for those with a fear of dental visits.
In addition, dentistry is now using advanced technologies for diagnosis and treatment. This includes the use of digital X-rays, intraoral scanners, and technologies that contribute to more accurate and efficient results.
In general, modern techniques and innovations in dentistry in Ukraine contribute to improving the quality of treatment and patient comfort, making dental services more accessible and efficient.
How do you assess the accessibility of modern dental services for the population?
Modern dentistry is becoming more accessible and enjoyable for patients thanks to innovative technologies and digital developments. One of the key aspects of this is the abandonment of the traditional sound of a drill, making treatment painless and stress-free.
The application of digital technologies in dentistry includes innovative treatment methods and modern world-class equipment. For example, 3D smile modeling technology provides accurate digital impressions of teeth without the need for plaster casts, which simplifies and improves the quality of dental procedures.
The CAD/CAM system allows you to create individual designs for each patient, ensuring high-quality prosthetics. In addition, STA computer anesthesia provides optimal pain relief without syringes, reducing the pressure and speed of anesthetic delivery.
The latest techniques such as sedation, plasmolifting, Invisalign orthodontic treatment, hyaluronic acid injections, and ozone therapy make dental services more painless, effective, and affordable for patients.
Thus, modern technologies in dentistry not only improve the quality of treatment but also provide greater accessibility for the population, creating a comfortable environment for dental treatment without pain and stress.

What motivates patients from other countries to come to you for dental care?
When you talk about accessibility in dentistry, it is not only a matter of cost, but also an important aspect of mentality and attitude towards patients. Ukrainian doctors, including myself, emphasize an individual approach, understanding and deep perception of the patient’s pain.
Our mentality allows us to feel a deep connection with our patients. We are always ready to accept people who need help and do not wait until the pain becomes too unbearable. We strive for the highest standards in our work and develop our skills through courses and seminars.
Ukrainian dental education is strong, and the level of doctors is much higher than in many other countries. We take into account not only specific symptoms but also the impact of treatment on overall health. Our approach is deeper, and logic is included in solving the problem at all stages. I always follow new trends, constantly improve my level and spare no time and money for advanced training. For example, one of my latest acquisitions, my pride, is the Phillips Zoom 4 White Speed teeth whitening lamp. This is the most modern method of teeth whitening, without pain and with a noticeable result after the first use. I have been waiting for this lamp and I am a certified tooth-whitening specialist, so I understand the value of this equipment in meeting the needs of clients. The Zoom 4 whitening treatment guarantees more than eight shades of whitening, making teeth visibly lighter in just one session, which takes less than 45 minutes. This whitening method is ideal for people with sensitive enamel, as it uses very mild gels that do not harm the enamel or cause demineralization. Please note that Zoom 4 whitening results can be enjoyed for at least four years.
Effectively whitening your teeth is almost like cooking. You need to have the perfect recipe and the right ingredients. You can, of course, cook by eye, or bleach according to instructions, but the result will not be exactly what we need.
So, patients from other countries come to us not only because of accessibility, but also because of our deep understanding, quality of treatment, and our desire to develop our skills to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient.
In your opinion, what is more important for patients: accessibility of services or their high standard? For patients, these are two inseparable parts of successful treatment.
Accessibility implies not only financial accessibility but also physical accessibility, including location and flexible appointment hours. However, it is essential to note that accessibility without a high standard can lead to deficiencies in service delivery.
A high standard includes the quality of equipment, the use of advanced techniques, the qualifications of specialists and the use of advanced materials. This is an important component of ensuring effective and safe treatment.
Combining these aspects is critical to creating a complete medical service that meets the needs and expectations of patients. This approach will ensure not only access to treatment but also its effectiveness and safety for all patients.
How do you view your work in Athens compared to your practice in Ukraine? Are there any differences in approaches or demand for dental services?
Comparing my practice in Athens with the one in Ukraine, I would like to note that I do not see any major differences in approaches and demand for dental services. Both countries are developing in this direction and have a high standard of dental care.
Still, for me personally, the appeal of Greece lies in its sunny climate, nature, and life by the sea. This creates a great backdrop for work and leisure. As for the demand for services, it is determined mainly by the individual needs and capabilities of patients.
It is important to note that even with all the similarities, each country has its unique atmosphere and approach to medical practice. I try to take these nuances into account in my work to ensure the highest standard of service for my patients.
In addition, it is significant to keep in mind that dental health is a universal topic for everyone. People everywhere use their teeth daily, and good hygiene and regular checkups can go a long way toward improving oral health. As stated, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
However, there are some differences in approaches and mentalities. Sometimes patients are hesitant to seek dental care on time, which can contribute to the accumulation of problems and higher treatment costs. Therefore, by emphasizing the importance of regular visits and preventive care, we can help to identify and eliminate issues on time.
At the same time, I emphasize that the cost of services can be lowered if the specialized examination is carried out on time. Emphasize your willingness to communicate with patients, giving simple explanations of their dental condition and the need for measures that will promote greater interaction and understanding.
This is an important factor in patient relations in both Ukraine and Greece and contributes to greater patient engagement and trust.
