Ukraine opens an embassy in Mauritania

Ukraine has opened an embassy in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, in western Africa. The countries will now develop more substantive ties. The embassy was opened in Nouakchott, the capital of the country.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba noted that Mauritania currently holds the presidency of the African Union, the continent’s critical international organization that unites 55 states. It is also a promising trading partner for Ukraine and essential in international anti-terrorism efforts in the Sahel region. Ukrainian security experience may be in great demand here, the minister added.

Ukraine and Mauritania plan to cooperate in several areas, including trade and economics, energy, agriculture, information and communication technologies, culture, and education. In addition, Mauritania will soon receive Ukrainian grain.
