In 2026, Bermuda became the most expensive place to live in the world, surpassing even New York. At the same time, Ukraine is the cheapest country in Europe. This is reported by the Visual Capitalist portal, referring to data from the global Numbeo index.
According to the published index, in which the cost of living in New York serves as the base indicator at 100 points, Bermuda received a score of 123.5. This means that life there is 23.5% more expensive than in the largest US city.
The five most expensive locations in the world include:
- Bermuda (123.5) – the leader of the world rating.
- Cayman Islands (97.9) – a famous offshore center.
- Switzerland (84.3) – the most expensive country in Europe.
- US Virgin Islands (82.5).
- Singapore (81.2) is the most expensive country in Asia.
Interestingly, the United States ranked 19th on the global list with an index of 56.3. China (the world’s second-largest economy) ranks 122nd globally with a rating of 21.5.
At the opposite end of the ranking are the countries with the lowest cost of living. The absolute minimum was recorded in Libya, where the index is only 12.3.
Ukraine is also on the list of countries with the most affordable prices for goods and services. According to the infographic, Ukraine’s index is 19.2. This is the lowest figure among the European countries presented – for comparison, in neighboring Belarus it is 21.5, in Moldova – 26.4, and in Kosovo – 19.5.
