During an official visit by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine to Oslo, a long-term military partnership between Ukraine and Norway was established. The leaders of the two nations signed a strategic declaration covering areas such as drone production, defense industry development, and energy security enhancement.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy provided detailed information on collaboration in the drone sector and improvements to defenses against kamikaze drones, which are already being used in both the Middle East and European regions. According to him, based on the signed Joint Declaration, teams from both nations are now working on further steps for coexistence in defense and security sectors.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre highlighted the parity within the alliance and emphasized that providing military and financial support to Ukraine is a mutually beneficial process. He noted Norway’s opportunity to gain valuable operational experience in defense against Russian aggression, describing Zelensky as a strategic partner and personal friend.

Significant attention was given to the process of transferring the F-16 fighter jets. The head of the Norwegian government countered widespread claims of delays, explaining that the aircraft required comprehensive modernization, differing from military equipment transferred by other allies without additional refurbishment. Norwegian aircraft underwent updates in Belgium based on American contracts and are now owned by Ukraine. According to the Prime Minister, the first modernized fighter jet will soon be operational and integrated into the Ukrainian Air Force.

Zelenskyy confirmed that the Ukrainian side was informed in advance about the condition of the jets and agreed on the need to bring them to combat readiness for further use.

This fourth visit of Ukraine’s President to Oslo solidified Norway’s status as one of Ukraine’s key technological defense and aviation enhancement partners. In conclusion, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the Norwegian government and its citizens for their support in military and energy security, as well as aid in strengthening air defense capabilities.

This move serves as a logical addition to Ukraine’s recent international security agreements, particularly with Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia, aimed at reinforcing the nation’s defense potential.
