The World Bank has allocated $432 million for road rehabilitation in Ukraine

The World Bank has approved a new DRIVE project (Building Resilient Infrastructure in Vulnerable Environments in Ukraine), which allocates $432 million to rebuild road infrastructure. The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine reported this.

Of this amount, $422 million will be provided as a loan, and another $10 million will be provided as grants.

The project is aimed at restoring transport infrastructure in 19 regions of Ukraine. It includes:

  • Overhaul of roads and bridges;
  • Reform of national highways;
  • Installation of modular bridges;
  • Technical assistance and management of infrastructure projects.

According to Maryna Denysiuk, Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development, raising these funds is critical for road maintenance and repair, as logistics saves lives during the war.

The State Agency for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine will implement the project.

The DRIVE project is part of the Unified Public Investment Portfolio and aims to rebuild the critical transport network. Experts estimate that 58% of the Ukrainian transportation sector has been destroyed since the start of the full-scale invasion. In particular, 30% of state roads and bridges, 11% of local roads, and 17% of municipal facilities have been affected.

The project is expected to be completed in 2025-2028.
