As of January 31, 2024, almost 4.3 million citizens who fled Ukraine due to Russia’s full-scale war had temporary protection status in the European Union, as stated in the Eurostat report.
Over the month, their number increased by 25.53 thousand people (0.6%).
The largest increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees with temporary protection status was in Germany (by 8.8 thousand or 0.8%), the Czech Republic (+6.36 thousand; +1.6%), and Spain (+3.05 thousand; +1.3%). At the same time, the number of refugees from Ukraine with temporary protection decreased in Denmark (by 2.25 thousand; -6.1%), France (-660; -1.1%), Austria (-420; -0.5%) and Lithuania (-155; -0.3%).
In general, the largest number of persons with temporary protection as of the end of January was registered in (1.17 million people; 27.3% of the total number in the EU), Poland (993.02 thousand; 23.2%), and the Czech Republic (394.99 thousand; 9.2%).

Compared to the population of each EU country, the highest ratio of those granted temporary protection per thousand people was observed in the Czech Republic (36.2), Poland (27.1), and Estonia (26), while the corresponding figure at the EU level was 9.5 per thousand people.
As of January 31, 2025, Ukrainian citizens accounted for more than 98.4% of temporary protection beneficiaries in the EU. Adult women accounted for almost half (44.8%), children for nearly a third (31.8%), and adult men for about a quarter (23.4%).
