Sandstorm destroys Ukrainian installation at Burning Man 2025

The Ukrainian installation “Black Cloud” by artist Oleksiy Say was destroyed at the American Burning Man festival.

According to the co-author of the installation, Vitaly Deynega, the seven-ton storm cloud was destroyed by a sandstorm that broke into the Black Rock Desert in Nevada. The incident occurred after the installation was installed.

The installation “Black Cloud” symbolizes challenges and dangers, and also demonstrates the imminent threat of World War III.

The composition consists of 45 small clouds, which required four kilometers of black fabric to sew. Periodically, the cloud comes to life with flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder, warning the world to be prepared for unforeseen circumstances.

Before the trip to the festival, “Black Cloud” was exhibited on Sofia Square in Kyiv in June.

This year’s Burning Man will also feature an art car based on Maria Prymachenko’s painting “The Blue Bull” and the installation The Point of Unity, created by lighting designer Mykola Kabluka. The artist invested $100,000 in his work.

As a reminder, the Burning Man independent and open art festival will take place in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, in the western United States, from August 24 to September 1.
