Public readings in Egypt featured works by Ukrainian writers

As part of the Month of Francophonie, Egypt recently hosted public readings of world literature in French translation and the original language, attended by diplomats of the Ukrainian Embassy and representatives of the Ukrainian community, presenting works by Ukrainian authors of various genres.

Thus, for the adult audience, several paragraphs from Andriy Kurkov’s popular novel Gray Bees were chosen. The novel is set against the backdrop of Russia’s war against Ukraine, which began in 2014, as was emphasized in the opening remarks before the reading.

Younger listeners had the opportunity to hear an excerpt from Oleh Avramenko’s science fiction novel The Stars in Your Palms.

The event, held simultaneously at several educational institutions in Cairo in face-to-face and online modes, was organized by the French Institute in Egypt with the support of the French Embassy in Egypt.
