National Geographic magazine has included a photo of a Ukrainian boy with his family in its selection of the year’s best pictures.

We are talking about the photo “In the arms of the family”, which was taken by the English-Swedish photographer Anastasia Taylor-Lind.
In the photo is a boy from the Poltava region, Timofii Tsvetkov. He is wearing a T-shirt with the inscription “My dad wears the uniform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”. The boy’s aunt, Olga Grinik, holds his hand near her cheek.
According to the publication, Timofii’s father is fighting in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and his hometown of Avdiivka was under Russian occupation. As a result, the family was evacuated to central Ukraine.
Photographer Anastasia Taylor-Lind has been documenting the life of the Grinik family for over 7 years, alongside Ukrainian photographer Alisa Sopova. They are working together on the 5K From the Frontline project, which shows the everyday lives of people during the war.
Taylor-Lind herself has also been affected by the fighting. In 2023, she suffered a traumatic brain injury during a rocket attack on a cafe in Kramatorsk.
