Lviv International Airport may start operating in a few weeks, and the government is also considering resuming flights from another Ukrainian airport. According to the optimistic scenario, the Lviv airport management is preparing to resume flights in April or May, but the company is considering another scenario.
“Currently, we are talking about resuming regular flights from Lviv,” said Tetyana Romanovska, the general director of Lviv Airport, during a conversation with reporters.
She said that international airlines contacted the Lviv airport management this year and conducted their audits. They are conducting a preliminary analysis, after which they will be ready to work with Lviv airport in a few days.
The CEO also added that Wizz Air, Air Baltic, Turkish Airlines, Sky Up, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, and LOT have already expressed their readiness to resume regular flights from Lviv.
Lviv airport management is also considering another option: resume regular flights in the summer when the tourist season begins.
Another airport that may also start operating soon if the government makes a decision is the airport in Uzhhorod. The President’s Office said it could begin operating during the war and serve irregular charter public flights. It is considered to be the safest airport in Ukraine from which to operate flights at the moment.
However, the military should make the final decision to reopen this airport, taking into account the security situation, the availability of sufficient capabilities to protect the sky, etc.
