On December 14, Nigerian boxer Michael Igwegbe held his second professional boxing match in Kyiv. His opponent was Ukrainian Ihor Tsymbalyuk, who won by unanimous decision of the judges, as reported by Top Boxing Generation. Igwegbe came to the fight wearing khaki socks with the inscription “Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
The photo went viral and was immediately picked up by the leading Ukrainian media.
“Michael Igwegbe’s socks during the fight with Tsymbalyuk. And after the fight, the Nigerian said he wanted to donate part of his fee to the Ukrainian military. Thank you, Young Mike,” Top Boxing Generation said.
However, Michael lost the fight to Ukrainian Ihor Tsymbalyuk. After the defeat, Michael thanked all Ukrainians and said he would donate $200 of his fee to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
