Instagram launches broadcasts only for "close friends"

Instagram is launching the ability to conduct live broadcasts only for “close friends” – subscribers chosen by the user. The feature is available worldwide.

The social network launched live broadcasts back in 2016. Until then, anyone could join the broadcast and watch it if it was conducted on a public account. On a private account, all subscribers could watch the broadcast. This is a popular feature for bloggers and celebrities who communicate with fans on broadcasts.

However, the new Close Friends Live feature allows users to simultaneously go live with three other people. Users can choose who can see their broadcasts. The developers think this will encourage people who have not used the feature before to try it out.
