In Germany, Ukrainian male refugees may be deprived of payments

Men of military age who left Ukraine after the start of the full-scale invasion may face the problem of financial support in Germany. The country is considering stopping payments to a certain category.

The initiative was put forward by Florian Hahn, a member of the German parliament from the opposition Christian Democratic Union party.

In January, the German Ministry of the Interior reported that 209,842 men of military age from Ukraine currently live in Germany. This sparked calls in the Bundestag to consider suspending payments to Ukrainian men with refugee status.

The Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs emphasizes that those refugees who have the right to reside and cannot earn a living are entitled to financial support. However, they are obliged to coordinate with the employment center to integrate into work.
