Exhibition of Ukrainian Women Artists Opens in New York

More than 60 works by prominent Ukrainian female artists are displayed at the “SHERO” exhibition in Manhattan, New York. The first Ukrainian gallery, “Mriya,” has launched a week of art dedicated to women’s beauty, strength, physicality, and sexuality.

One of the exhibitors, Ukrainian-American artist Julia Isabel, emphasized the social nature of her art. She started creating after a difficult period of separation from her husband, who left her with three children during the war in Ukraine in 2014. For her, art has become an expression and a source of strength that helps her work with large formats.

Isabelle’s central painting is a symbol of the SHERO exhibition, which aims to highlight the strength and beauty of a modern woman. The curators emphasized that the exhibition is not a feminist struggle but rather a celebration that a woman today is a “SHERO,” i.e., a heroine, despite all the difficulties and obstacles.

The exhibition, which will run until February 22, features works by 27 artists from different regions of Ukraine, including the frontline areas of Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv. All 60 works were transported to New York with the help of friends and acquaintances, and the proceeds from selling the paintings will support the Razom for Ukraine Foundation. The art-territory platform Rukh organized the exhibition in cooperation with the first Ukrainian gallery in New York, Mriya.
