Every third Ukrainian lives in poverty - World Bank

Over the past four years, the number of poor people in Ukraine has increased by 1.8 million, reaching 29% of the country’s total population. This is reported by Reuters with reference to the World Bank report.

“The number of Ukrainians living in poverty has increased by 1.8 million people since 2020, reaching 29% of the population amid the continuation of the Russian invasion, which is weakening the national economy,” the article says.

It is noted that, according to World Bank estimates, about 9 million Ukrainians now live in poverty. “The rise in poverty is associated with a decline in employment, as more than a fifth of adults who were employed before the war lost their jobs,” Reuters notes.

At the same time, the report notes that 85-92% of Ukrainian hospitals are still fully operational despite Russian strikes.

Also, at least 89% of children aged 6-18 continue to study, although in the regions where the fighting is most active, 72% of students attend classes online.
