Tennis player Elina Svitolina will carry the blue and yellow flag of our country at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris on Friday, July 26. The athlete will share this honorable mission with swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk. This was reported by the press service of the National Olympic Committee.
Ukraine is not the only country to choose a tennis player as a flag bearer at the opening of the 2024 Games. It is known that Coco Goff will carry the U.S. flag at the ceremony in Paris, along with basketball player LeBron James.
Overall, Elina will be only the third woman to carry the flag at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games. The first was swimmer Yana Klochkova at the 2008 Beijing Games.
The tennis player has already arrived at the Olympic Village in France and upon arrival shared her expectations of the third Olympics in her career.
She noted that in such a difficult time, when the country is at war, playing under the blue and yellow flag at the Olympics is of particular importance to her.
