This year, the international contemporary art festival Burning Man will present an independent Ukrainian art object, HERO ARMOR. The project will help raise funds for the reconstruction of the UNBROKEN center for war victims.
The large-scale installation is based on the personal story of the founder and lead artist of the project, Lisa Kormilets. During Burning Man 2025, she left a photo of her cousin, Ukrainian 3D artist and military Zakhar Zakharov, who died defending Ukraine, in the traditional Temple.
Among the thousands of photos left there, Zakhar’s photo was accidentally seen by his childhood friend, who had not known about the loss until then. This incident became the impetus for the creation of HERO ARMOR.
The visual basis for the installation was a digital image of a futuristic warrior created by Zakhar Zakharov before the start of the full-scale war. According to the authors, the project is a symbol of memory, inner strength, and the continuation of the stories of those who are no longer with us.
