Big Mac Index. The Ukrainian hryvnia is undervalued against the dollar by 50.7%

In the updated Big Mac index, the Ukrainian hryvnia has fallen to sixth place from the bottom of the list of the world’s most undervalued currencies. This is stated in the data from The Economist’s rating for January 2025.

In Ukraine, a Big Mac costs 120 hryvnias, while in the United States, it costs $5.79. Thus, the Ukrainian currency is undervalued by 50.7% compared to the actual exchange rate of 42.0 UAH/USD, and the exchange rate in purchasing power should be 20.73 UAH/USD.

The study, conducted since 1986, estimates the cost of a Big Mac burger sold in the popular McDonald’s fast food chain. The Economist compares the cost of burgers in all countries with the price in the United States.
