Ukraine ranks eighth in the world in terms of defense spending. In absolute terms, Russia is almost three times ahead of us.
This was reported by the UA War Infographics Telegram channel.
Based on data collected by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, a ranking of countries by military spending in 2024 has been compiled. The top ten looks as follows:
- United States – $997 billion;
- China – $313 billion;
- Russia – $149 billion;
- Germany – $88 billion;
- India – $86 billion;
- Great Britain – $82 billion;
- Saudi Arabia – $80 billion;
- Ukraine – $64 billion;
- France – $64 billion;
- Japan – 55 billion.
All countries in the top ten increased their defense spending compared to 2020. The largest increases were in Ukraine (+838%) and Russia (+126%), while the smallest were in Japan (+3%), France (+10%), and China (+10%).
To put this into perspective, Ukraine’s defense spending in 2020 was only $6.8 billion.
