13-year-old Ukrainian tennis player Maria Kocherzhenko became vice-champion of the prestigious Wimbledon tournament in the under-14 age category.
In the final match, the Ukrainian lost to Isha Manchali of the United States. The decisive match ended in a super tie-break. The final score of the match was 5:7, 6:2, 8-10 in favor of the American athlete.
Maria overcame the group stage, winning three consecutive victories over rivals from Denmark (6:4, 6:3), Brazil (6:3, 6:0) and Australia (6:4, 6:7, 14-12). In the semi-final match, she defeated another Brazilian tennis player, 6:3, 7:5.
On the eve of the start of the tournament, Maria Kocherzhenko topped the Tennis Europe rankings in her age category.
