Ukrainians who hold valid driving licenses in several categories and officially reside in Germany will be able to exchange them for German licenses without taking theoretical and practical exams.
At the same time, for the Ukrainian category A1, the corresponding German category during the exchange will be AM.
For categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE, confirmation of medical fitness (Anlage 5 FeV) and fulfillment of vision requirements (Anlage 6 FeV) remain mandatory.
There is also a separate restriction for driving licenses in categories C or D. If the Ukrainian category C or D was issued without category B, to obtain the German category B, you will have to pass both theoretical and practical exams. At the same time, it is impossible to obtain the German category C or D without the previous category B.
To exchange a Ukrainian license, you must have an official place of residence (Wohnsitz) in Germany. The application is submitted to the local driving license office — Führerscheinstelle — at the place of registration.
