French actor and writer Jean Reno has published his second novel, entitled “The Escape” (original title L’Évasion), released by XO Editions. This book serves as a sequel to his literary debut, “Emma”. It is dedicated to the topic of the forced deportation of Ukrainian teenagers to the Russian Federation.
The story centers on Emma, an agent of the French intelligence service, who embarks on an undercover mission to Siberia to infiltrate a secret camp where deported Ukrainian children are held, aiming to gather evidence of their unlawful confinement. According to Jean Reno, he was inspired to write the work by credible reports of these specific crimes committed by the Russian Federation.
It is noteworthy that the author has longstanding connections to Ukraine, as evidenced by his involvement in filming the movie “Cold Blood” in the Carpathians near Lake Synevyr. The first book in the series, centered on Emma’s adventures, achieved notable commercial success in France, selling over 40,000 copies. It was also translated into Ukrainian by the publishing house “Old Lion.” The new thriller is anticipated to capture international attention due to its socially relevant theme and the author’s reputation.
