On April 22, the European Film Academy unveiled an updated list of ten new entries to the Treasures of European Film Culture. Among these recent additions was the National Dovzhenko Film Studio.
This decision was announced on the official website of the European Film Academy, noting that the film studio is one of the oldest and most renowned in Ukraine and will soon mark its centennial. Over the decades, the studio has produced over a thousand films, including internationally acclaimed works that have significantly influenced the development of Ukrainian cinema as an independent art form.
It has been reported that the studio’s history is closely tied to the achievements of distinguished directors and cinematic masterpieces by figures such as Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Sergei Parajanov, Yuri Ilyenko, Leonid Bykov, Mykola Mashchenko, and Ivan Mykolaichuk.
Additionally, in 2026, cinematic landmarks were added to the list across Albania, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Serbia, and Sweden.
It is also noteworthy that since 2015, the Potemkin Stairs in Odesa have been featured in this list. They are recognized as one of the world’s most iconic locations for filming historical movies, notably Sergei Eisenstein’s 1925 film “Battleship Potemkin.”
